I hope a Happy Mother’s Day was had by all!

I hosted a brunch for my family at my apartment this weekend and it was a success. I was able to sit down and enjoy the day with my family because I prepared beforehand and I was not busy in the kitchen the whole day.

How to Host an Organized Brunch:

- Make your menu and grocery list a week in advance. During the week as new ideas pop into your head add it to the list.

-Don’t make anything thats overly time consuming or difficult- it can really throw you off (look for recipes that seem fancy but are easy- see below)

-Grocery shop with your list the day before the big brunch (double check you have everything before leaving the store)

-When you get home do all your rinsing and slicing so when its time to actually cook its not as time consuming

-If you can cook anything the day before then do so (think cakes, cookies, etc)

-Buy inexpensive flowers and arrange them with whatever you have on hand (I used mason jars)

-Set the table the night before (if you don’t have enough place settings be creative- I used black place mats at the head of the table because I didn’t have enough silver to go around) monogrammed napkins are always a nice touch!

-Add something personal that you know the guests of honor will love (in my case I had shots of green juice and mimosas waiting for my guests)

 
The Menu:
 
*There is NOTHING wrong with store bought items as long as you put them in pretty dishes no one has to know!
 
-Mimosas (half O.J. half champagne)
 
-Green juice shots (mix a handful of kale, a few pieces of pineapple, and half of a banana in a blender)
 
-Assortment of bagels
 
-Assortment cream cheese (if you want to get fancy buy a lot of regular cream cheese and mix in your own scallions or sun dried tomatoes- VERY easy)
 
-Lox
 
-Roasted tomatoes
 
-Roasted potatoes (cut up fingerling potatoes, drizzle with olive oil, add a packet of onion soup mix and bake in the oven on 350 for 1.5 hours).
 
-Egg white scramble with mushrooms, onions, and zucchini (a little bit of rosemary for garnish)
 
-Fruit salad (cut up apples, pineapple, pear, blackberries, banana and drizzle with lemon juice)
 
-“Healthy” brownies (seriously amazing!!!! and so so easy)

Follow these easy tips from the folks at The Container Store when packing carry-on bags and you’ll fly through airport security (pun intended). I am reposting their article as its important for organized travel:
 

1. 3.4 ounces or less Liquids and gels must be in 3.4 ounce (100 ml) or smaller containers.

 

2. One clear, 1-quart zip-top bag It doesn’t matter how many 3.4 ounce or smaller containers you have as long as they fit in your clear, 1-quart zip-top bag. Regular food-storage bags work, or for a sturdier option, look for a reusable bag designed especially for travel.

 

3. One per traveler Each traveler is allowed one of these clear, 1-quart zip-top bags. Be sure to have your 1-quart bag out and ready to be placed in the screening bin in order to move through security as quickly as possible.

 

4. Exceptions Breast milk, baby formula and medicines are exceptions to the 3.4 ounce or less rule. Be sure to only carry what you need for your flight and declare it to the TSA agent before passing through security.

 

Don’t be caught unprepared. Keep all your travel toiletries filled up and in a see-through bag inside your suitcase so the next time you travel you are all set.  You can find some of these fabulous travel products here and here.
